Individual & Small Group Tuition

Courses are individually planned and taught in groups of 1 - 5 pupils.  While this ensures close individual attention, students are also stimulated through interaction with students of different ages in their home-class.

All courses are taught by gifted specialist teachers in attractive, fully equipped, computerised classrooms and tutorial rooms that include facilities for all practical subjects (from the pure sciences and technology to art and languages).  We have a teacher or tutor for every subject: we do not teach any examination subjects by correspondence, but students can enroll in Open Polytech correspondence courses (beginning tertiary vocational qualificaitons) that will be tutored by one of our specialist teachers.

Our proven Carey College Curriculum is integrated with the Cambridge International Examinations Curriculum developing sound independent study habits, providing instruction in content-rich courses and specialist skills, supporting internationally accredited excellence, and nurturing Christian discernment and character.

A Flexible Curriculum that Leads to International Qualifications

Core subjects are selected from the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) extensive list with options to include work-experience modules and Polytech and vocational courses.

Our 14+ option continues with challenges in Skills, Service, Sport and Expeditions leading to Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Awards

Only Bible (Divinity) and a core physical care courses are compulsory and there are no exclusions in the selection and matching of subject options from different subject groups (of course there are some papers that are too similar to be examined together, or are unsuited to partiuclar students). This means that students can choose courses that include a diversity of disciplines (such as fine-arts with accounting and science), or they can make a narrow focus (such as specialising in sciences or humanities) if their university and career plans are settled.  Students choose virtually any combination from the whole range of Cambridge and vocational subjects.

Students needing to gain Univeristy Entrance must inlcude Maths to IGCSE Level and one English subject to AS Level.  There may be other subjects that should be included for particular degree or vocational choices: students and parents need to consult with Senior Secondary staff in designing courses, and we hold a Senior College Course Evening for all Senior Secondary pupils and their parents at the start of each year to help with this.  In addition, the Univeristies visit Carey College regularly to advise pupils and outline university options, and students can make use of our vocational and tertiary guidance services at any time.

Students can graduate with a CIE AICE Diploma, A Levels, or IGCSE, and vocational qualifications and experience.
Working With Parents

We believe our role is to help parents, not take over from them.  That means we consult with parents about students plans and progress, keep you fully informed about children's schooling, and are open to your insights and advice.

Parents, pupils and the school plan and monitor courses together with individual Course Records that record planned work and actual progress, with weekly and five-weekly assessments.  These records indicate what work students should be doing in homework and are checked and signed off by parents weekly.

Written reports based on objctive evaluation of learning and progress are issed twice a year.  Also twice a year each pupil meets with his/her parents and class teacher to review progress and plan the next stage of learning.
Our small classes, flexible courses, and biblically shaped school life enable us to fulfil our commitment to helping you nurture your children in excellence and truth for Christ.
The diverse needs of students are met with extensive course choices leading to international qualifications, New Zealand and international univesity entrance, and vocational and work experience certification.
