Early Sunday 1 June, our friend and Carey College Office Manger Tony de Graaf died suddenly at his home. This week we start with a holiday! Students return to school on Tuesday 30 January. Secondary students will be asked to complete option forms and settle course selections. Our new Staff Handbook is published. A new Keyboarding course is to be introduced. Last week’s inservice training went well for our staff and good progress has been made on our summer maintenance schedule. Roll numbers fluctuate – we have only a few vacancies in our expanding secondary department but there are a disappointing number of vacancies for primary enrolments. This is the day Axolotls come to school! We begin using new record books for reporting to parents.

have work to do on improving our network and services. School maintenance continues with improvements in such mundane things as installing new rubbish (trash)
bins. Staff are working on preparation of a multimedia Internet Safety Kit for use in
the school and distribution to school families. And work is proceeding on building a
Web-site list we can post giving recommended links to useful sites.

important skills. Carey College has traditionally enjoyed full participation in science
fairs and has received outstanding recognition at local and national levels -
including one award for the best science project in New Zealand for its year. Home
schooled children also have opportunity to take part in fairs.
